Taking it

How do I take it?
With Lion's Mane and Reishi, hold 1ml under your tongue for 30 to 60 seconds. Chaga, Turkey Tail, and Trifecta are better stirred into a glass of cold water or any drink. Some people add theirs to food, though I'd steer you to a drink. Whatever gets you taking it consistently.
How much do I take?
One 1ml serving is the standard, and most people take it first thing in the morning. That is four pumps. On a day with more demand you can go up to 3ml. Start at 1ml, stay there a while, and see how it sits before you change anything.
Should I take it in the morning or at night?
Lion's Mane goes in the morning. It reads as clear focus rather than a stimulant, so it sets up your day. Reishi is the evening one, taken before bed. The gut and immune ones are not time-sensitive, so take those whenever you will actually remember. If you want both ends of the day covered, that pairing is the Day & Night Shroom Stack.
Can I put it in my coffee?
Cold water is the better call. Heat breaks down the compounds, so a hot cup works against the extract. Stir it into a cold drink or take it under your tongue, and have your coffee after. Plenty of people on Lion's Mane find they reach for less coffee anyway.
What does it taste like?
For most people the Lion's Mane tastes good: sweet with a little tart edge, a bit like tamarind or a mild balsamic. All of them are easy to take. If you don't love the taste of one, put it right into a drink and you're set.
Do all five extracts taste the same?
They share a base and differ from there. All five open sweet and silky, an apple flavor with a mild tartness, no more sour than a piece of fruit you'd actually enjoy eating. Lion's Mane adds its own fruity edge on top of that, closer to tamarind. Reishi carries a forest bitterness that's simply part of the mushroom. Chaga brings chocolate undertones over a dark forest flavor. Turkey Tail has a rich forest floor flavor, and Trifecta lands on rich forest notes.
How soon will I notice anything?
With Lion's Mane and Reishi, a lot of people notice something the same day. The gut and immune ones work quieter, so give those a few weeks. Either way it builds. The people who get the most out of it are the ones who take it every day and stay with it.
Is it safe for everyone?
These mushrooms are generally considered safe. If you have a mushroom allergy, you should avoid this extract. If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medication, check with your physician before use.
Can I give it to my pet?
I give my own dog Lion's Mane extract with his food every day. For pets in general, most people reach for Turkey Tail and Reishi. One rule: never give Chaga to dogs. It's high in oxalic acid, so keep Chaga to the two-legged members of the family.

Choosing your mushroom

Which mushroom should I start with?
Start with what you want from it. Lion's Mane is the morning one, taken for focus and a clear head. Reishi is the evening one, taken to settle down and rest well. Chaga and Turkey Tail are the wild-foraged pair, taken for everyday gut and immune upkeep. If you want that whole side covered in one bottle, Trifecta combines Turkey Tail, Chaga, and Reishi. Still not sure? Take the 15-second quiz and it points you at one product.
How will it make me feel?
It depends which one you take. Lion's Mane leaves most people clear-headed and more focused, with less of that midday fog. Reishi helps you feel balanced and settled, not drowsy or knocked out. Turkey Tail, Chaga, and Trifecta work on your gut and immune system over time, more about balance than a buzz.
What is the difference between an extract and a mushroom powder?
A powder is the dried mushroom, ground up, with most of its compounds still locked inside tough cell walls. An extract has done that work already: we pull the compounds out of whole fruiting bodies and concentrate them into a liquid you take by the dropper. One is raw material, the other is ready to use.
Can I take more than one at the same time?
Yes. They cover different ground, so pairing them is normal. Lion's Mane in the morning and Reishi at night is the pairing the Day & Night Shroom Stack is built around, and Trifecta covers three in one serving. If you are new to extracts, start with one bottle, learn how it sits with you, then add.

Sourcing and the farm

Where do the mushrooms come from?
Lion's Mane we grow ourselves in New Smyrna, Florida. Reishi is half and half: our partners in Michigan wild-forage one half, and the other half we grow ourselves from a wild Florida strain we found and cloned. Chaga is wild-foraged in Michigan, Turkey Tail in Oregon, both by partner wildcrafters we know by name. Every extract is made from wildcrafted North American mushrooms, whole fruiting bodies only.
What do "wild-simulated" and "wild-foraged" mean?
Wild-simulated means we grow the mushroom outdoors in real conditions, the way it would grow on its own, instead of in a sterile indoor room. Wild-foraged means it grew wild and a forager we know by name went and found it, which is how we source Chaga and Turkey Tail. Either way, the mushroom grew the way nature runs things, and that is the point.
Do you really grow mushrooms outdoors in Florida?
Yes. We are the only mushroom farm in Florida cultivating outdoors, on land that has been farmland for over a hundred years. We took cultivation outdoors in late 2022, and we still grow indoors too, so outdoor growing is something we do, not the only thing we do. Real weather is harder to work with than a sealed room. We think the mushrooms are better for it.
Do you use whole fruiting bodies or mycelium?
Whole fruiting bodies, always. The fruiting body is the actual mushroom, the part you would recognize. A lot of products on the market are made from mycelium grown on grain, and much of what ends up in the jar is the grain itself. When our label says Lion's Mane, it means the mushroom.
How do you make your extracts?
We grow or source the mushrooms, then extract them ourselves on the farm. Whole fruiting bodies go through a triple-fraction, multi-phase exhaustive extraction: ultrasound-assisted, solvent-free, with no alcohol, including a high-pressure hot-water fraction. Lion's Mane is extracted fresh, never from dehydrated material, with one more step we call cryo-extraction. We have been running ultrasound extraction since 2022. The extraction page tells the full story.
Why is there no alcohol in your extracts?
Most tinctures are alcohol extractions. Ours use none. Early customers told us the harsh flavor of an alcohol extract made it hard to take every day, and an extract you quit taking does nothing for you. Going alcohol-free made the flavor sweet instead of harsh, and it means the extracts work for anyone avoiding alcohol entirely.

Shipping and pickup

When will my order arrive?
Extracts ship in 1 to 3 business days, and shipping is free over $40. Fresh mushrooms are a different story. Those are farmers market pickup only and we never ship them. If you want fresh, come find us at one of our three Central Florida markets.
Do you ship fresh mushrooms?
No. Fresh mushrooms are farmers market pickup only, and we never ship them. Preorder online and we will set yours aside at the booth, or just come find us at a market. The fresh mushrooms page has what is available this week.
What if my order arrives damaged or wrong?
If your order shows up damaged, wrong, or not at all, we replace it immediately. No forms, no fight. Email andrew@floridashroomking.com with your order number, and a photo if you have one, and a replacement goes out.
What if the extract is not right for me?
We stand behind the extracts with a 30-day store-credit guarantee, so a first bottle is not a gamble. Reach out within 30 days and we make it right with store credit. Fresh mushrooms are food, picked fresh for you at the market, so they are not covered by a return window. Full terms are on the guarantee page.
Where can I find you in person?
We are at three farmers markets every single week. Friday nights at DeLand Artisan Alley, Sunday middays at Halifax River in Port Orange, and Monday evenings at Audubon Park in Orlando. Come taste the extracts, handle the fresh mushrooms, and ask us anything. Our fresh mushrooms are also stocked at Tomazin Farm in New Smyrna on Saturday mornings, though we are not at that one ourselves. Days, hours, and directions are on the markets page.

Subscriptions

How does the subscription work?
You pick your size and it arrives on a schedule, so you never run out partway through. Pause or skip anytime from your account. Subscribers also get first notice on small-batch and seasonal extracts before those go out to everyone else.
How often does a subscription ship?
It matches the bottle. The 1 oz size is about a 30-day supply at the standard serving, so it ships monthly. The 2 oz is about a 60-day supply, so it ships every two months. If your pace is different, pause or skip from your account and the next bottle waits for you.

Testing and quality

Do you test your extracts?
We are pursuing third-party testing and will acquire it as soon as genuine testing methods are available. Right now only beta-glucans are reliably tested. Mushrooms carry hundreds of compounds, so testing is an emerging and complicated process.
What can you stand behind without third-party testing?
The chain of custody. We grow or source every mushroom, extract everything ourselves on our own farm, and use whole fruiting bodies with no alcohol and no solvents. You are not buying a white-label bottle from a warehouse. You are buying from the people who made it, and you can come ask us about any step of it at the market.

Chaga is technically not a mushroom; it is a sterile conk on birch trees.
