Florida Mycological Society

There is a mushroom club in Florida now, and you do not need to know anything to come.

The Florida Mycological Society was founded to give people interested in fungi somewhere to actually go. It is a big kingdom and there are new discoveries in it constantly, so the more people looking, the more gets found. Kids walking with their family, nature and biology enthusiasts, and working mycologists all fit in the same group.

What a meeting actually is

Monthly club meetings take the form of a group mushroom walk. Seasoned enthusiasts break down what turns up along the trail so everyone can follow it, and the findings get documented rather than admired and forgotten. Some of that documentation goes on to become real work.

You do not need gear, a background, or the ability to identify anything. Showing up is the whole requirement.

Why we are involved

Knowing what a mushroom actually is matters when growing and extracting them is your job. The people who take identification seriously, including the ones doing DNA validation, are the reason we can be specific about species instead of vague. That rigor is worth supporting, and it is worth being part of.

How to join
